Bible history teachers are funded entirely through private contributions from local individuals, businesses, churches and foundations.No tax dollars are used to fund this elective, for-credit opportunity offered to Hamilton County, TN, public school students.
In 2016, the comprehensive annual cost of running a Bible history program in 19 schools was over $1 million. This includes all teacher salaries; benefits (health, dental, retirement, all insurance); Social Security; taxes classroom supplies; textbooks (Bibles for every classroom for over 3,500 students in the County); and teacher professional development training 3 times a year. The average per-school cost of a Bible history program for 1 year in 2016-2017 is $75,000. Due to Hamilton County Department of Education increases and bonuses, the average per-school cost in 2017-2018 will be $80,000.
Bible in the Schools reimburses HCDE every year for over $1 million to fund 100% of all Bible teaching expenses.
